Tech stack for a mobile app with offline sync (2026)

Field inspection app with offline sync, designed by StackPrism from one sentence: 10 components, a reason for each, and the live checks that watch them.

The idea someone typed
“A field inspection app for iOS and Android built with Flutter. Inspectors fill in checklists and take photos on site with no signal: the app keeps a local database on the phone and syncs it when they’re back online. Managers review the reports in a web dashboard.”

Make it yours. Open this stack in the editor to check its health, harden it and hand it to your coding agent. No sign-up, nothing to generate.

Why this stack

The Flutter app works against a local SQLite database on the phone, so inspectors can fill in checklists and take photos with no signal. Once the phone is back online, it syncs with a Node.js API, which writes the records to PostgreSQL on Supabase and the photos to Supabase Storage, then triggers Inngest jobs for the work that can wait, such as emailing managers through SendGrid. Managers review reports in a Next.js web dashboard that reads from the same API. Clerk signs people in on both apps, and Sentry reports errors from the phone, the dashboard and the API.

Why each piece

All 10 components on the diagram: what each one does, what it talks to, and what stops if it goes down.

  1. Web Dashboard

Next.js dashboard. Calls Node.js API (reads), Clerk (auth) and Sentry (errors).

Nothing else on the diagram depends on it.

  2. Flutter Mobile App

iOS and Android app. Calls Local SQLite (reads/writes), Node.js API (syncs), Clerk (auth) and Sentry (errors).

Nothing else on the diagram depends on it.

  3. Node.js API

    In Backend Services

Central API service. Calls PostgreSQL (queries), Supabase Storage (stores), Inngest (triggers), Clerk (verifies) and Sentry (errors). Called by Flutter Mobile App (syncs) and Web Dashboard (reads).

If it goes down, 2 of 9 components stop working.

  4. Inngest

    In Backend Services

Async sync jobs. Calls SendGrid (emails). Called by Node.js API (triggers).

If it goes down, 1 of 9 components degrades.

  5. Clerk

    In External Services

Authentication service. Called by Flutter Mobile App (auth), Web Dashboard (auth) and Node.js API (verifies).

If it goes down, 3 of 9 components stop working.

  6. SendGrid

    In External Services

Email notifications. Called by Inngest (emails).

If it goes down, 1 of 9 components degrades.

  7. Supabase Storage

    In Data & Storage

Photo storage. Called by Node.js API (stores).

If it goes down, 1 of 9 components degrades.

  8. PostgreSQL

    In Data & Storage

Supabase database. Called by Node.js API (queries).

If it goes down, 3 of 9 components stop working.

  9. Local SQLite

    In Data & Storage

On-device database. Called by Flutter Mobile App (reads/writes).

If it goes down, 1 of 9 components stops working.

  10. Sentry

Error tracking. Called by Node.js API (errors), Flutter Mobile App (errors) and Web Dashboard (errors).

If it goes down, 3 of 9 components degrade.

When this stack fits

  • People work where there’s no signal and can’t lose an inspection to a dropped connection.
  • One Flutter codebase for iOS and Android.
  • Records and photos sync separately: PostgreSQL for the data, storage for the files.

When to pick something else

  • Two people edit the same record offline: you need conflict rules, or a sync engine built for it, beyond a plain sync endpoint.
  • Your team knows React: React Native with Expo covers the same ground, as in the habit tracker example.

What you need to build this

10 components across 7 areas of the stack.

Build it with your AI agent

Hand the stack to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any coding agent as a brief: how it connects, install steps and a build plan.
