Tech stack for a mobile app with subscriptions (2026)
Habit tracker mobile app, designed by StackPrism from one sentence: 8 components, a reason for each, and the live checks that watch them.
The stack
React Native
Node.js
- Inngest
PostgreSQL
Clerk
RevenueCat
Sentry
“A habit tracking mobile app built with Expo for iOS and Android. Accounts, daily reminder push notifications, streaks synced across devices, and a premium subscription through RevenueCat.”
Make it yours. Open this stack in the editor to check its health, harden it and hand it to your coding agent. No sign-up, nothing to generate.

Why this stack
The Expo app is the only client, on iOS and Android. It signs in with Clerk and calls a Node.js backend API that keeps habits, check-ins and streaks in PostgreSQL, so a new phone picks up where the old one left off. Scheduled Inngest jobs scan reminder settings and send the daily reminders through Expo Push Notifications, even when the app is closed. RevenueCat handles App Store and Google Play subscriptions: the app asks it whether to unlock premium, and its webhooks keep the backend in step. Sentry catches crashes and API errors.
Why each piece
All 8 components on the diagram: what each one does, what it talks to, and what stops if it goes down.
Expo React Native App
iOS and Android app. Calls Clerk (auth), Backend API, RevenueCat (checks) and Sentry (reports).
Nothing else on the diagram depends on it.
Backend API
In Backend Services
Node.js API. Calls PostgreSQL (reads/writes), Inngest Jobs (schedules), RevenueCat (webhooks) and Sentry (reports). Called by Expo React Native App.
If it goes down, 1 of 7 components stops working.
Inngest Jobs
In Backend Services
Scheduled background jobs. Calls PostgreSQL (scans), Expo Push Notifications (delivers) and Sentry (reports). Called by Backend API (schedules).
If it goes down, 1 of 7 components degrades.
PostgreSQL
Supabase-hosted. Called by Backend API (reads/writes) and Inngest Jobs (scans).
If it goes down, 3 of 7 components stop working.
Clerk
In External Services
Authentication provider. Called by Expo React Native App (auth).
If it goes down, 1 of 7 components stops working.
RevenueCat
In External Services
Subscriptions and billing. Called by Backend API (webhooks) and Expo React Native App (checks).
If it goes down, 2 of 7 components degrade.
Expo Push Notifications
In External Services
Push delivery service. Called by Inngest Jobs (delivers).
If it goes down, 1 of 7 components degrades.
Sentry
Error tracking. Called by Backend API (reports), Expo React Native App (reports) and Inngest Jobs (reports).
If it goes down, 3 of 7 components degrade.
When this stack fits
- One Expo codebase for iOS and Android.
- Premium is an App Store and Google Play subscription, and RevenueCat keeps both stores in step.
- Reminders have to arrive even when the app is closed.
When to pick something else
- The app has to work without signal for long stretches: the offline field inspection example keeps a database on the phone.
- A web app would do: app store review and in-app billing add steps you can skip.
What you need to build this
8 components across 7 areas of the stack.
Build it with your AI agent
Hand the stack to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any coding agent as a brief: how it connects, install steps and a build plan.
