Tech stack for a Next.js and Supabase app (2026)

Next.js and Supabase starter, designed by StackPrism from one sentence: 4 components, a reason for each, and the live checks that watch them.

The stack

  • Next.js
  • Supabase
  • PostgreSQL

The idea someone typed
“A simple Next.js app deployed on Vercel that uses Supabase for auth and the Postgres database, with Supabase Storage for user avatars.”

Make it yours. Open this stack in the editor to check its health, harden it and hand it to your coding agent. No sign-up, nothing to generate.

Why this stack

The smallest stack that still covers accounts, data and files: one Next.js app on Vercel, and Supabase for everything behind it. Supabase Auth handles sign-in, its managed Postgres holds the data, and Supabase Storage keeps user avatars. Four components and no servers to run yourself.

Why each piece

All 4 components on the diagram: what each one does, what it talks to, and what stops if it goes down.

  1. Next.js App

Deployed on Vercel. Calls Supabase Auth (auths), Postgres Database (queries) and Supabase Storage (uploads).

Nothing else on the diagram depends on it.

  2. Supabase Auth

Authentication service. Called by Next.js App (auths).

If it goes down, 1 of 3 components stops working.

  3. Postgres Database

Supabase managed Postgres. Called by Next.js App (queries).

If it goes down, 1 of 3 components stops working.

  4. Supabase Storage

User avatar storage. Called by Next.js App (uploads).

If it goes down, 1 of 3 components degrades.

When this stack fits

  • You want accounts, a database and file uploads with no servers to run.
  • A prototype or a small app where four components are enough.

When to pick something else

  • You need payments too: the vibe-coded MVP example adds Stripe to the same shape.
  • Heavy server-side work: add an API service or background jobs rather than doing everything in the Next.js app.

What you need to build this

4 components across 4 areas of the stack.

Build it with your AI agent

Hand the stack to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or any coding agent as a brief: how it connects, install steps and a build plan.
